Faced with increasing deforestation in recent years, extensive agriculture in Côte d’Ivoire is having a worrying environmental impact. Against this backdrop, the Ivorian government is taking steps to promote agroforestry, a sustainable solution aimed at combating land degradation while offering farmers an alternative.
As part of this drive, the government has announced an ambitious project in the department of Sassandra: the creation of five permanent agroforestry zones covering a total area of 20,000 hectares. This project is part of the Okromodou forest reserve rehabilitation initiative and was approved on Friday March 14, 2025. The total cost of this initiative is estimated at 42 billion CFA francs, or around 69.6 million US dollars.
