The Sustainable Development Report 2025 shows Benin’s strengthened position both globally and regionally. This result, according to the report, is essentially due to the considerable impact of the reforms undertaken over the past decade. Indeed, in its 2021-2026 Government Action Program, the Beninese executive has made access to drinking water in urban areas a priority for the well-being of the population. In 2016, for example, the Société Nationale des Eaux du Bénin (Soneb) covered 61 main towns, but now supplies 69 of the existing 77. The supply rate climbed from 54% to 74.7% in just eight years. Nearly 350 thousand subscribers were registered by Soneb by the end of 2024, a 41.5% display since 2016.
