According to the UN, Africa suffers “disproportionately” from climate change. In a study published this year (2024), the World Meteorological Organization deplores the fact that the continent’s countries lose an average of 2% to 5% of their GDP in dealing with climate extremes. Faced with this worrying situation, too few training courses (less than 10%) are geared towards themes adapted to the continent’s climatic reality. It is therefore time to adapt the response of higher and technical education to this climate issue, in synergy with local authorities, businesses and civil society organizations. Key chapters such as ecological transition, bioclimatology, renewable energies, the green economy… should systematically form part of the offer of higher and technical education establishments in African states.
