More than ever, the green economy should not be seen as an ecological luxury for Burkina Faso. Today, it is much more a strategic choice for economic sovereignty, social cohesion and protecting the well-being of future generations. By intelligently combining sustainability and independence, Burkina Faso can chart its own course: that of responsible development, rooted first and foremost in its resources and driven by its community.

Faced with deforestation, soil degradation and the impacts of climate change, Burkina Faso finds itself at a crossroads. In a world where states are increasingly focusing on their national interests, the country must invent its own strategy for resilience and autonomy.

In the United States, the ” America First ” slogan ultimately translated into a redirection of foreign aid towards geopolitical priorities of interest to the American nation. In the UK, the Brexit was motivated by a desire to regain some control over economic and trade decisions. In India, the ” Atmanirbhar Bharat ” policy, launched in 2020, aims for self-sufficiency by reducing dependence on imports. China, meanwhile, is increasingly banking on greater industrial self-sufficiency, particularly in technology sectors.

In practice, these examples reveal one of the current global realities behind the rhetoric of globalization: economic sovereignty is once again a strategic priority.
