The principle of the green economy is the creation of environmentally friendly jobs. Economies in Africa are highly dependent on natural resources and as such, the transition to a green economy should lead to sustainable resource exploitation while reducing high rates of poverty through job and wealth creation. The main sectors where investment is needed to promote the sustainable and inclusive exploitation of resources are agriculture, with more than 70% of the working population in West Africa; energy, access to which for local populations remains a major challenge for governments; and industry, including manufacturing, mining, energy and construction.
