Two recent events have marked an important step forward for the Comoros waste management sector. Under the ISLANDS project, financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) with UNDP support, the country is taking a decisive step towards more structured, inclusive and sustainable waste management.
On April 22, 2025, the Agence Nationale de Gestion des Déchets (ANGD) organized a workshop at the Hotel Retaj dedicated to the development of inter-municipal waste management plans. The aim is to support local authorities in the design of shared plans, adapted to local realities. This approach aims to optimize resources, promote coordination between local authorities and reduce collection, treatment and recovery costs. In short, to lay the foundations for a more supportive, efficient and economically viable system.
