The Kolda region (south) intends to mark the 2025 edition of the national reforestation campaign with a strong ambition: to plant 750,000 trees by the end of the season. This is the objective announced by the Regional Inspector of Water and Forests (IREF), Lieutenant-Colonel Moussa Diémé, at the preparatory Regional Development Committee (CRD) held on Tuesday June 24. The official launch of the campaign is scheduled for Sunday August 3 in Médina Yoro Foula, to mark National Tree Day. The choice of Médina Yoro Foula as the launch site is not insignificant. According to Lieutenant-Colonel Diémé, the department has two major characteristics that prompted this decision: its border location, which makes it a hotspot for timber trafficking, and its notable shortage of fruit trees.
