Isthis a turning point? Largely disappointed by the conclusions of COP27 in Egypt, African countries adopted the “Nairobi Declaration” in September, designed to promote green growth on the continent. A meeting that sounded the alarm on the need for Africa to speak with one voice in global climate negotiations. “Africa has both the potential and the ambition to be an essential part of the global solution to climate change,” the leaders proclaimed in the text, which is far from a consensus. However, the ambition to move forward “united” seems intact on the eve of the opening of the UN climate conference (COP28) in the United Arab Emirates, while the questions and challenges remain immense.
