On May 6, 2025, in Bamako, the energy regulators of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger held their very first official meeting under the aegis of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES). In a region where less than 21.7% of the population has access to electricity in Burkina Faso and 19.5% in Niger, the stakes are vital. Despite a solar potential of over 4,000 GW in Mali, governments remain dependent on costly thermal power plants.
Energy is an essential strategic lever for the development of the States of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES).
