COP 30 is a decisive step towards meeting the ambitions of the Paris Agreement. Here are some of the issues at stake:
- Climate justice: addressing the profound injustice that the poorest countries, responsible for less than 5% of historical emissions, suffer the most serious consequences of global warming.
- Revision of National Climate Contributions (NDCs): countries must submit new reduction commitments by 2030. However, according to UN Climate, only 10 countries had done so on time by early 2025.
- Climate financing: triple resources to help poor countries adapt, a demand reiterated by global civil society.
- Fair energy transition: supporting developing countries in their transition from fossil fuels to renewable energies, while ensuring respect for human rights, the consent of local populations and a reduction in inequalities.
- Protecting tropical forests: a central issue for Brazil, particularly with the goal of halting illegal deforestation by 2030.
