The article discusses the importance for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) of moving towards energy transition. It becomes essential to examine the environmental, technical and political issues, as well as the aspects of environmental governance and sustainable development linked to the production and use of woodfuel in the DRC, in order to promote the said energy transition towards modern and sustainable forms of bioenergy use. A country rich in diversified energy resources, numerous and well distributed spatially, teeming within it with metamorphoses on the demographic level, with urban growth. But also, in the sector going from the production to the consumption of solid biomass. To carry out this study, we adapt the analysis grid of bioenergy sustainability indicators developed by GBEP. This sustainability grid for bioenergy, following an approach aimed at supporting the DRC in \u201cthe design, implementation of sustainable bioenergy policies and strategies. The approach is based on the principle that the development of bioenergy must promote both food and energy security, and contribute to agricultural and rural development in a climate-smart manner \u201d(FAO, 2014). The recommendation is to define a solid biomass participatory management model integrating the identified factors of sustainability. Therefore, the establishment of a framework for discussion and regular meetings in the field of solid biomass while setting a milestone for communication and collaboration between ministries involved in the management of energy resources.<\/p>\n

Introduction<\/strong><\/p>\n

The aim of this publication is to analyze the environmental, technical and political issues, as well as the aspects of environmental governance and sustainable development linked to the production and use of woodfuel in the DRC, with a view to promoting the transition energy towards modern and sustainable forms of bioenergy use. To do this, we will use the bioenergy sustainability analysis grid set up by the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP), the Food and Agriculture Organization of Nations. – United (FAO).<\/p>\n
