Sao Tomé et Principe has defined the development of the blue economy as an integral part of its vision for national development up to 2030.

To achieve this priority, key planning and investment instruments, such as the Blue Economy Transition Strategy and the Blue Economy Investment Plan, have been developed in a participatory manner.

The development of the blue economy in Sao Tomé and Principe is closely linked to adaptation to climate change, as the country relies heavily on marine resources for its livelihood and economic growth.
