As the world celebrated Earth Day on April 22, 2024, people in Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali were living in extreme heat, with the mercury rising to 42\u00b0C in the city of Niamey. Yet the Sahel came close to the worst at the end of Ramadan. Scientists believe that this situation, which is set to intensify over the next few years, is linked to climate change.<\/p>\n
